Foundation application with a brush

Slay The Foundation:

Even if you properly exfoliate and moisturize your skin, no one is flawless. In order to smooth out your complexion and hide any blemishes you’ll need to start with a light foundation. While it may be tempting to just smooth it on with your fingers, using a proper foundation sponge or brush is important. Using your fingers adds unnecessary oils and dirt to your just-cleaned skin. Make sure you choose a foundation color that properly matches with your skin tone, and blend it into your jawline so you don’t look as though you’re wearing a mask. It’s also important to apply foundation in natural light, since artificial lighting can be misleading. You don’t want to get ready for a big date only to walk outside and realize you look like a clown!

Sultry brown smokey eye

Give Sultry Eyes:

While simple is key, a date night is the perfect excuse to try out your own version of the ‘smoky eye’. For a more natural version of this popular look, try using shades of taupe and brown instead of black and gray. Start with a light colored shadow on the inner corners of the eyes, and gradually transition to a darker color on the outer corners - ensuring that the shadow is properly blended at the edges to avoid any harsh corners. Don’t go too heavy on the shadow, you want to look sexy while still remaining natural. Finish off the look with a dark brown waterproof mascara that lengthens and defines your lashes.

Defining cheek bones with subtle pinks

Define The Cheekbone:

Using a light-colored, barely there blush can look very romantic. Softly flushed cheeks are ultra sexy, so choose a pale pink or pale peach blush and apply lightly on the cheekbones. Make sure to smooth it out afterwards so you don’t have any hard lines. The trick is making it look as though you have just blushed at something your date has said, you don’t want it to look as though you’re working in a carnival.

Beautiful plum color lips

Pucker Up!

Your lips should be properly moisturized before applying any lipstick! Use a gentle exfoliant and apply a moisturizing balm before color. Dry, flaky lips aren’t very sexy! While the classic red lip is always a popular choice, try using a slightly more subtle color, such as burgundy or plum. These colors are sultry while not being too over-the-top. If the look is still too bold for you, just lightly dabbing on the lipstick will add a nice pop of color without being too overwhelming. Try to avoid very glossy colors, since these tend to be messy. If your night ends with a kiss, you don’t want to get sticky, glossy lipstick all over your date’s face! Make sure to blot your lipstick before leaving, and keep it in your bag for quick touch-ups throughout the night.

Girl on a Valentine's Day date all dressed up

Once you’ve followed all of these tips, you’re ready for a romantic night out! However, the trick to slaying any date night look is feeling comfortable in your own skin. If you’re not a smoky eye kind of girl, go lighter! If you’d rather not wear wine colored lipstick, go for a pale pink lip instead. The trick is to accentuate your natural beauty while adding in a few sultry dashes of color. Now, get out there and slay that date!
